The opening games of the 2015/16 English Premier League revealed a lot about the the contenders and pretenders for this season's title.

Below are five things we learnt about how the season will shape up after matchday one.
1. Arsenal need a striker to win the league title
After back to back FA Cup titles and ending last season on the high, the Gunners had high hopes for this coming season.

"There is something about this group of players now, we feel we can make it happen this year," Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain told Sky Sports after Arsenal's victory over Chelsea in the Charity Shield.
They were however brought back to reality with a shock 0-2 defeat at home to West Ham on Sunday, August 9.
That game highlight Arsenal's need for a better striker than Oliver Giroud. The Arsenal No. 12 is not the answer to Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, Chelsea's Diego Costa and City's Segio Aguero.
Arsenal in my opinion would have won that game if they started with Theo Walcott like they did in the 4-0 victory over Aston Villa in last season's FA Cup final.
The England international offers more option to the Gunners' plethora of midfield talents.

Giroud stands in front of the defense looking to play somebody in which does not work against good oppositions.
There have been talks of a move for Karim Benzema, Arsene Wenger better make happen or continue to be a 'loser'.
2 Chelsea have not improved
From pre-season games to the Charity Shield defeat against Arsenal to their opening day draw to Swansea, it is clear that Chelsea have not improved from last season.
They blew everybody away on their way to the title last season, especially in the first half.

As the season wore on, Chelsea became easier to contain and it got harder for them. After a quiet transfer window, The Blues have not improved on their last season form.
Watch them against Arsenal and Swansea, the lack of urgency and pace from their forward plays have made very predictable.
Willian lacks that urgency and tricky to influence games, Cesc Fabregas drifts in and out of matches, Diego Costa cannot remain fit, Radamel Falcao is still adapting and Loic Remy is not good enough leaving everything to Eden Hazard.
When the 24-year-old don't deliver, Chelsea are as static as ever.
Jose Mourinho needs to find a solution else it is going to be a long season for Chelsea.

3. Uncertainties with Manchester United
Watching Manchester United bland performance against Tottenham and we still don't understand what Louis van Gaal is planning.
The uncertainties surrounding Old Trafford are quite baffling.
Will David de Gea be allowed to leave, will a new striker come in, are we going to see another central defender come in?
Ultimately, we are still yet to get Van Gaal's 'philosophy'.

After one full season with the club we still can't identify Manchester United with a style of football.
Attacking from the wings like Sir Alex Fergusson, defensive football like Mourinho or free-flowing game like Wenger, we still don't know.
4. Roberto Martinez still can't plug the holes in his defense
David Moyes' players and Martinez's ideas were the perfect marriage at the Spaniard's first season at Everton.
After that first season, Martinez's Everton side has began to show glimpses of his Wigan-which got relegated-side, letting in 50 league goals.

This season, it seems Martinez has not been able to fix his defence, conceding two goals against newly promoted side Watford.
5. Manchester City yet to fix problematic midfielder
Though they thrashed West Brom by 3-0 on Monday night, Manchester City are yet to fix their problematic midfielder of last season.
The Fernandinho and Yaya Tour midfield pivot was a problem last season; it was easily split by opposition defence and was hardly winning balls.
The pair started yesterday's game against West Brom and the problem was still evident.

Yaya scored two goals for City but his defensive capabilities are still in doubt. The spaces between Fernandino and Yaya was evident throughout the game and West Brom can only blame themselves for not exploiting it.
City play Chelsea next and that is when the real test starts.
