Kwesi Appiah says local players needed rest in recent call-up

Kwesi Appiah rests local players in recent call-up and also promises to call a few selected players next year.

The coach was speaking to the media after the 1-1 draw against Egypt and he did respond to the inclusion of Goalkeeper Joseph Addo as the only local player who made the list.

Coach Kwesi Appiah stated that the Ghana Premier League ended a few weeks ago and to that effect the local players needed to rest as they just come out of a tedious season.

“I always make sure I call local players but with this very call-up, the reason is simple.”  I realized that the Qualifiers is ending as well as the Ghana Premier League. It is therefore important I give other people from outside the chance to also assist the team.”

Kwesi Appiah has had introducing new players into the team as his mantra. However, Kwesi Appiah says that he will depend on a core of selected players for next year.

“Next year I will only depend on a few players who are actually doing well. I will not make such mass call-ups anymore.”

Kwesi Appiah has the mandate to handle the Ghana Black Stars for two years as he started work with the Senior National Team for the second time on 1st May, 2017
