Great Olympics and Liberty Professionals, two team and two managers who face similar predicament

Liberty Professionals are in a similar predicament as their opponents Accra Great Olympics, but will fancy their chances of securing their first away win when they visit Accra on Sunday.

Ghana Premier League club Liberty Professionals

Despite the early signs of revival which saw high-profile victories against Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea at home, Accra Great Olympics are currently treading on a fragile ground with 19 points after match day 18. They are 14th on Ghana’s top division rung.

Notwithstanding their ability to create and score goals both at home and away, the problems that blighted Olympics in the first round of the season, still persist. Amongst them are, a leaky defense, lack of experience and leadership on the field. Great Olympics are the third highest conceding team in the league (22) but boast of a better goal scoring acumen than Kumasi Asante Kotoko who are fourth on the league table. This raises questions about their recruitment plan during the second transfer window. The lack of a steady backline and overreliance on Abel Manomey for goals could prove their undoing this season.

Liberty Professionals are in a similar predicament as their opponents Accra Great Olympics, but will fancy their chances of securing their first away win when they visit Accra on Sunday. Coach Michael Osei got off to an impressive start with a 1- 1 away draw against an Accra Heart of Oak team that had begun to hit their stride in the first round of the season. Notable in that match was the improvement in defense albeit conceding through the penalty spot. They are a point above Great Olympics.

Similar performances were shown when they travelled to face Tema Youth and WAFA at home, but they are yet to record a win under their new manager. The Dansoman based club have a history of flirting with relegation but have always found a way to meander their way through, however, this time, it looks more daunting. While the development in defense is a welcome news, Coach Osei should be concern about his team’s low scoring aptitude.  Just a single goal has been scored since he took over and what makes liberty’s situation more ominous is that Ashgold, another team below them are beginning to find their mojo under C.K. Akornor. He needs to get the best out of his forward line which is led by Bernad Arthur.

Great Olympics would need to banish the memory of their 0-4 in their last home game against Tema Youth, and must summon the same spirit they showed against Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea if they are to walk over their less celebrated opponent, Liberty. The scientific soccer lads on the other hand must equally employ the strategy they used against Hearts at the Accra sports stadium and most importantly devise a more clinical approach to their attacking play. Richard Kissi could be a handy option in this endeavor.

Prediction 2-2.
