Adelaide hero Head did not believe Strikers could win

Travis Head admitted he did not believe he could lead Adelaide Strikers to a successful run chase following his match-winning hundred against the Sydney Sixers.

Needing 51 off the final three overs, the Strikers hopes of chasing down 177 at the Adelaide Oval looked to have all but disappeared, only for Head to power them to a five-wicket victory in magnificent fashion.

From being 45 off 38 balls, Head hit two fours and seven sixes in his final 15 deliveries - including three consecutive maximums in the final over - to finish with 101 from 53 and seal the triumph with one of the finest innings in Big Bash League history.

Asked if he thought the Strikers could win with three overs remaining, Head said: "Not a chance. [I'm] over the moon.

"I thought at one stage we were gone. I've been going pretty not so great in this tournament.

"[It's] nice to get some runs, awesome to get the win."

On his last six that clinched his hundred and the win, he added: "I was going for it. I'd done all the hard work, might as well go again."
