"I want to play against Cameroon but …" – Asamoah Gyan

The striker pulled a muscle strain in Ghana’s last group game against Egypt, forcing coach Avram Grant to substitute him early in the first-half.

The on-loan Al Ahli striker subsequently missed the Black Stars’ quarter-final win over DR Congo, and is a doubt for the semi-final clash against Cameroon.

Gyan – who has scored one goal so far in the Africa Cup of Nations – now faces a race against time to fit for the semi-final encounter.

However, the striker is optimistic about his chances of making a swift return, insisting his participation against Cameroon will be dependent on “how training goes”.

“Right now I’m working on my fitness. Yesterday [Wednesday] I felt an improvement; there was much improvement so I will start [training] with the team and see how it [training] goes,” Gyan said.

“I have to work on match situations (match fitness). So I’m going to do that then I can declare myself fit and [see if] the medical team can also declare me fit.”

The former Sunderland attacker added that the only thing Ghana is focusing on is getting to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

“What we want is to get to the finals and that is what we are focusing on right now. Cameroon is a tough side, [but] we are also a tough side so it’s going to be a very interesting game. But we want to be victorious; that is what we are working on. We want to get to the finals.”

The Black Stars will play against Cameroon later on Thursday to determine who faces Egypt in the final.
