Curated by AkunaPod and The British Blacklist, Creatives’ Pause was designed to give filmmakers space away from the pressures of production, allowing participants to pause, reassess their creative journeys, reconnect with their creative voice and set intentions for the year ahead.

Held on 8th & 9th January 2026, the retreat took place at the AkunaPod space in Ghana and brought together filmmakers from Ghana and the diaspora.

Across the two days, attendees engaged in guided conversations, collaborative sessions and reflective practices focused on both personal growth and professional development. Organisers said the emphasis was on openness, clarity and building meaningful connections across the creative community.

Participants shared candid reflections on the challenges and triumphs of working in film, while exploring opportunities for collaboration and cross border partnerships. Ghanaian cultural identity was woven throughout the programme, with storytelling and reflective rituals forming a core part of the experience.

According to organisers, the retreat strengthened connections between local and diaspora filmmakers and positioned Ghana as a space for thoughtful, collaborative storytelling within the global creative landscape. Outcomes from the retreat included new collaborative ideas, clearer professional goals and renewed momentum across Ghana’s filmmaking community.

The retreat was co led by Mariam A Buahin, COO of Akuna Ghana, alongside Akua Gyamfi, founder of The British Blacklist, who described the inaugural Creatives’ Pause as a strong and meaningful success, laying the groundwork for future editions.
