Hearts officials square off with journalist at G6 press soiree

The build up to the First Trust G6 tournament witnessed a major anticlimax on the eve to kick off when a surprise press soiree program turned into a war zone of wild verbal exchanges.

The incident looked like a wrestle mania pre fight staging and nearly could have ended up in a fight night until guests became mediators.

Accra Hearts of Oak officials were passing through the event to give the media some limited interview opportunities, just as their opponent for Wednesday's second match, Aduana Stars.

It was Michael Otoo, an aspiring parliamentary candidate for the ruling party NDC for the Effia Constituency who out of appreciation for the local media for their marvelous work in promoting the inaugural pre-season competition, paid for the party at the Naakof Chinese Hotel.

Yet despite the cozy ambience and available chilled drinks and the sumptuous meal, the climax was rather a sting in a tale. Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi was to answer four questions. One of his statement was Hearts were in the competition to win. The follow up was what he will do if does not win? Kenichi declined and said it was not a good question.

Another journalist asked "what will be a failure to you (Kenichi) in this tournament"? While the Japanese trainer smiled but hesitated to answer, his team manager Saban Quaye further restrained his coach from answering the question and asked that the journalist reframe his question because the tournament has not started.

John Ansah, tournament director intervened and said that's all for the coach. By that same moment another journalist who felt Kenichi's response was unfair quizzed if he was the one to determine which question was good or not good.

The reactions from both parties was stupefying as they screamed violently at each other to prove who was right or wrong, learned and unschooled, experienced and novice. This contest was largely between Kwame Opare Addo, Hearts' PRO and a Radio 360 journalist.

Kenichi silently walked out and Opare Addo was ushered out so calm could be restored. Outside though, Opare Addo was floored by the push of someone around. That made the Opare uncontrollable but later joined his fellows to depart for their hotel.

By and large, some level of serenity prevailed afterwards.
