MotoGP to continue in Rio Hondo for three more years

The Argentine Grand Prix will continue in Rio Hondo for the next three years after a new agreement was announced just before Sunday's race.

After 14 years without a grand prix in Argentina, the MotoGP calendar returned to the South American nation in 2014 in a three-year deal.

After three successful races at the Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo, an agreement was reached between MotoGP owners Dorna Sports, the Argentinian Tourism Minister, the Santiago del Estero Government and OSD, the promoter of the event, to make sure the race continues on the calendar through to the 2019 season.

"We are very pleased to reach this agreement with Termas de Rio Hondo and all the parties involved," Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said.

"It has been a good project so far with everyone involved helping to create a great circuit, and atmosphere for racing.

"South America has a very big passion for motorsport and we’re proud to continue bringing MotoGP to Argentina for three more years."

Honda's Marc Marquez secured his second victory in Rio Hondo on Sunday, with Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi winning in 2015.
