Ashes: Australia on top at lunch in Lord's Test

David Warner's aggressive approach backfired but Australia took advantage of batting-friendly conditions to dominate the first session of the second Ashes Test at Lord's.

The tourists set about attempting to level the series after England's 169-run win in Cardiff and made a promising start as they advanced to 104-1 at lunch, with Chris Rogers (43 not out) and Steve Smith (16no) at the crease.

Warner looked uncertain early in his innings, but was looking dangerous as he dispatched Moeen Ali's first two deliveries into the leg side for four but got carried away and was well caught by James Anderson when he skied the last ball of the spinner's opening over.

Moeen, who was passed fit to take his place in an unchanged England side, was targeted by Australia as they made the most of a good pitch after Michael Clarke won the toss.

Veteran Rogers looked very much at home at a ground where he has scored so many runs for Middlesex over the years and made his intent clear when he slashed an Anderson delivery over the slips in the first over of the day.

Shane Watson was dropped by Australia as Mitchell Marsh got his chance, while wicketkeeper Peter Nevill made his debut in the absence of Brad Haddin - who was absent due to personal reasons.
