Radwanska up and running in Melbourne
The sweltering Melbourne heat was not enough to stop Agnieszka Radwanska from navigating her way through the first round at the Australian Open, the Polish fourth seed accounting for Christina McHale 6-2 6-3.
Radwanska and American McHale were forced to brave the elements on Monday, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius on day one at Melbourne Park.
But Radwanska, who sat out last week's Sydney International after taking out the Shenzhen Open, was a class above as the 2014 Australian Open semi-finalist preserved her 100 per cent record (6-0) this year.
The opening set was a topsy-turvy affair, with Radwanska and the world number 65 exchanging breaks from the second game to the sixth.
But Radwanska claimed the decisive break in the eighth game as she closed out the set on McHale's serve and the second stanza was similar, with the former serving out the match after breaking in the eighth.
