Dry scalp can even lead to hair loss, if this condition is left untreated. Here are five home remedies for treating a dry and itchy scalp.

1. Bananas

Bananas are a great home remedy for an itchy scalp and they will condition your hair too.

What you need

  • Banana

  • Simply mash up two ripe bananas and massage the pulp into your hair and scalp. Leave it to sit on your hair for about half an hour and the banana will nourish and moisturize your scalp and it will reduce the itching.

2. Aloe vera

Aloe vera has amazing moisturising properties that will very quickly provide relief from a dry scalp.

What you need

  • Aloe vera
  • Mild shampoo

  • Massage some fresh aloe vera gel into your scalp and leave it on for fifteen minutes before you wash it out again with a mild shampoo. It will hydrate your scalp and you will probably notice the difference after just a single application.

3. Lemon juice

Lemon juice has antiseptic properties that will fight the itchiness of a dry scalp and it’s also a good treatment for dandruff too.

  • You should apply lemon juice on its own to your scalp, or you could mix it with some the other moisturising ingredients we have mentioned here. Remember to thoroughly wash lemon juice out of your hair, though, because it can have a bleaching effect when exposed to the sun.

Avocado is another natural ingredient that can be used to nourish and hydrate the scalp.
