Bell sorry to Steelers fans for being a 'distraction'

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell is in the appeals process of a possible four-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy, but did not address the drug-testing issue on Thursday as he apologised for being a distraction.

Bell reportedly missed several drug tests this offseason, which led to the league's decision to suspend him.

The running back is on thin ice since he was suspended two games last season for violating the same NFL policy.

"I want to apologise to Steeler Nation, all the fans and players and coaches for being a distraction to this whole situation," Bell said.

"I don't, obviously, want to be a distraction, but this whole situation, the appeal, is going to run its course."

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin also would not comment on the details of the appeal but believes the hearing will be held during the middle of August.

Bell went on Instagram to state he was positive he would overturn the suspension which was blamed in part on the 24-year-old changing his phone number recently and not providing the NFL and its drug-testing program with his new details.

Bell, who will be a free agent next season, tallied 556 yards and three touchdowns in six games while averaging a career-high 4.9 yards per carry last season before tearing his MCL and PCL in week eight against the Cincinnati Bengals.
