Deputy skipper of the Black Stars, Andre Dede Ayew believes Ghana has slim chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, insisting it is a near impossible task.

The Black Stars are paired in a tough group together with Egypt, Uganda and Congo for a place in Russia.

However, the West African giants have fallen off the pace, having failed to win any of their first two group games.

Egypt currently leads the group with six points, five ahead of Ghana who sit third, and the North Africans are favourites to progress.

And although Ayew believes there is still a chance that the Black Stars usurp the Pharaohs to secure qualification, he sees the task as almost impossible to achieve.

“Nothing is impossible, but we can say it [the world cup qualification] is close to an impossible mission. I think the people that know me know that I never give up and in one game anything can change,” the Black Stars deputy captain opined while speaking to the media after the Black Stars’ first training session.

“So we have to say calm. We put everything in the hands of the Almighty Allah, but also in our legs because we have a lot of work to do. If we want to have a chance to go to Russia, then we have to win all the four games and expect that Egypt lose a game or draw two.

“So we are going to wait and see, [because] every game for us is a must win.”

The West Ham attacker also had some words of praise for the Black Stars technical team, singling out team coordinator StephenAppiah and goalkeepers trainer Richard Kingston for praise.

“It’s nice to be back to see Stephen [Appiah] in the squad, and to see Olele [Richard Kingston] in the team. I think they are players who have done a great deal in the national team and know what it’s all about.”

The Black Stars first have to play in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia on June 11, before switching attention back to the World Cup qualifiers in September.
