The Chicago Blackhawks' thin blue line is growing ever leaner now that do-it-all defenseman Duncan Keith will miss at least a month after having surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee.

Reigning NHL Stanley Cup champions the Blackhawks confirmed Keith had the procedure on Tuesday and will be out for four to six weeks.

Blackhawks head team physician Dr Michael Terry said the surgery was a success.

Keith played in Chicago's 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.

The 32-year-old had two assists in six games for the Blackhawks this season.
