Rain delays South Africa recovery against Bangladesh

After almost wiping out Bangladesh's first-innings advantage on day three, South Africa were delayed by heavy rain in Chittagong on Friday.

South Africa's hopes of overturning their first-innings deficit against Bangladesh will have to wait until Saturday after day four of the first Test was washed out.

Heavy downpours throughout the day in Chittagong meant no play was possible at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, meaning South Africa remain 17 runs behind their hosts.

Should the rain relent, the tourists will resume 61-0 on the final day needing to score quick runs if they are to win the opening game of the two-match series.

The delay will be a particular frustration to Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn, with the 32-year-old sitting just one wicket short of becoming only the second South African to reach 400 Test wickets after Shaun Pollock.
