Danny Willett critical of U.S. Open officials

Major champion Danny Willett hit out at U.S. Open officials, unhappy about not being able to practice following the first of three rain delays in Pennsylvania.

Thursday's opening round was abandoned due to dangerous weather at Oakmont, with exactly half of the 156-man field still to tee off.

Willett, who won the Masters in April, did feature but he was four over through 12 holes when play was abandoned.

But the Englishman was less than impressed after he was not allowed to warm up after the first weather disruption.

"That was a bad one. We sat in a cabin for an hour and 10 minutes behind the seventh tee without being given a chance to hit any balls or do anything," Willett said.

"You're in a U.S. Open, they don't give you a chance to even hit a few balls. Even the second time out, 1:47, and we were told to go back out again at 2:10. Never hitting any balls.

"You can appreciate they're trying to get as many holes in as possible, but sometimes you just have to call it a day and come back."
