Sanju Samson (60 off 48 balls) and JP Duminy (49 not out from 31) starred with the bat as the Daredevils posted 164-4 against the defending champions.

Mumbai looked set to claim their third win of the tournament with captain Rohit Sharma (65 from 48) and Krunal Pandya (36 off 17) at the crease.

But spinner Amit Mishra took 2-24 as the Indians fell short after being in a strong position at 103-2 in the 13th over.

Quinton de Kock (9) looked in great touch fresh from scoring a brilliant century against Royal Challengers Bangalore as he hit the first two balls of the innings from Tim Southee to the boundary, but the opener was dismissed by Mitchell McClenaghan in the next over.

Delhi were reduced to 54-3 when Harbhajan Singh (1-24) got rid of Karun Nair with the final ball of the eighth over, but Samson and Duminy cut loose in a fourth-wicket stand of 71.

Youngster Samson clubbed two sixes in his impressive knock, while the South Africa all-rounder also twice cleared the ropes in an entertaining knock.

Rohit was in good touch as Mumbai appeared to be heading for victory, but lost their momentum as wickets fell and the runs dried up.

In a final over in which Mumbai were left needing 21 to win, Rohit was run out after hitting a six as his side were unable to get home.
