Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party presidential nominee, made the promise when he interacted with artisans at the Sokoban wood village in on the last day of his campaign tour of the Ashanti region.

Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to award local wood processing contract opportunities to local artisans if he is elected into office.

He heads to the Volta region to begin a five-day tour on Monday.

The NPP leader also promised to complete the second phase of the village which began under the Kufour regime.

Akufo-Addo said his vision for the village is like the Suame Magazine. Suame Magazine is the hub of artisans in the automobile industry.

He said, "I will also be proposing that all contracts especially public building should be given to local businesses like yours."

He told the artisans that he takes them serious because Jesus Christ during his time on earth started off as a carpenter.

In addition, the Akufo-Addo pledged to improve the road network leading to the village so as to facilitate their work.

The Sokoban wood village was inaugurated in 2008 by former president Kufour.

It was built for carpenters and wood sellers at Anloga and other parts of Kumasi.

It involved the construction of sheds, access roads, electricity and reliable water supply on 12.35 hectares.The 11 million Ghana cedis project, jointly funded by Agence Francaise Development and Ghana Government, forms part of the Kumasi Roads and Urban Development Project.
