Mrs Bawumia drew the first blood when he told a teaming NPP supporters at the launch of the party's manifesto that the president's hometown has no water yet he finds it prudent to invest in giant billboards.

With the 2016 elections heating up, president John Mahama and Samira Bawumia, wife of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice presidential nominee (Dr Mahamadu Bawumia), are trading barbs over claims that Bole, the hometown of the president has no water.

In response, the president slammed her as lacking the "technical" knowledge on water provision at a campaign rally in the Eastern region.
“You [Samira] don’t understand the technical reasons [why the people are still without pipe borne water; you can’t think far” he scoffed.
Mrs Bawumia has also responded to the president's statement in a Facebook post, saying: "I may not understand the technicalities involved in denying communities a basic and necessary amenity like water. But, I understand the power of conviction, competence and compassion to get things done."

She added: "The Yagbonwura has also complained about the lack of potable water for his people. Surely, we cannot begin to suggest that he too 'can't think far!'"
