Togbe Afede, Peace Council and EC meet candidates to ensure peace

The meeting is being held at the Moevenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra under the auspices of the National Peace Council.

The Electoral Commission, the National Peace Council and President of the National House of Chiefs Togbe Afede XIV are meeting all Presidential candidates in this year’s elections for deliberations and to get them sign a peace accord before the polls.

The meeting was also aimed at giving the candidates the opportunity to directly seek clarification from the Chair of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei.

The Commonwealth Observer Mission, former South African President Thabo Mbeki ia also present.

He looks "forward to the presidential candidates reaffirming their commitment to peaceful elections."

Ghanaians will on December 7, 2016 elect a new President and 275 Members of Parliament.

Six other candidates are contesting incumbent President John Mahama who is seeking a second four-year term in office.

Those in the race are Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is making his third attempt at the presidency.

Others are Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of Former President Jerry John Rawlings, Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Ivor Kobina Greestreet of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr Edward Mahama of the People's National Convention (PNC) who is also making his fifth attempt at the Presidency and independent candidiate, Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY).
