Obuobia told the media that it was "unfortunate" her rival backed out of the debate.

The debate was reportedly organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) with support from the Coalition for Domestic Elections Observers (CODEO) and the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana).

But the NCCE accused CODEO and CDD-Ghana of trying to hijack the event by placing their backdrop on the stage.

Angel Kabonu of CODEO said the NCCE has  "a different interpretation of the collaboration,” alleging that it want  “to superimpose and claim ownership of the programme.”

“Unfortunately, we’ll have to go back to the drawing table, re-organise ourselves and conduct the parliamentary debate in other constituencies. We apologise to all and sundry for the disappointment, told the media.

“I thought it was a collaboration and the final objective is to entrench democracy… it looks as if the regional director is not well informed about the arrangement,” Mr. Kabonu added.

But the NCCE Greater Accra regional director  Lucil Annan explained she was following instructions given to her prior to the event and will not give in to any pressure CODEO and the NCCE over the ownership of the debate.
