England can cope without James Anderson - Hashim Amla

England have enough depth to cope with the absence of James Anderson, says South Africa captain Hashim Amla.

The 33-year-old seam bowler has been ruled out of the first Test in Durban, which begins on Saturday, due to a calf injury.

However, pace bowlers Stuart Broad, Steven Finn, Chris Jordan, Chris Wakes and Mark Footitt are all available for the tourists.

The South Africa captain doubts England will miss their leading wicket-taker in the long form of the game but insists they are only thinking about their own performance.

"England have a few other good bowlers, but we don't place too much emphasis on who they have and who they don't have," said Amla.

"For us, it's about doing what we can do best. We want to start really well, especially after our series in India, which didn't go too well.

"So no matter who we come across on the first day, it's important for us to start well."

South Africa were without Dale Steyn for much of their 3-0 Test loss in India due to a groin injury, and Amla is delighted to have him back for the upcoming series.

"We're really glad to have Dale back. Obviously, being the number one bowler in the world and a great performer for us over the last 10 years, it's great to have him back," he continued.

"The fact that he's 100 per cent fit, and the way he's been bowling, that has been unbelievable to be honest with you.

"Just ask any of the batsmen who have faced him. He's been bowling really well and his intensity's been great.

"The way he's conducted himself says that he is ready to go and that's a really promising sign for us."
