Ibrahim Mahama sends his private jet to be converted into a public air ambulance for Ghanaians
Ghanaian businessman and Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, has converted his former private jet into an emergency air ambulance to support public medical response in Ghana.
The aircraft departed Ghana on April 3, 2026, to undergo specialised modifications, including the installation of life-support systems required for emergency medical evacuations.
The development follows reports of his recent acquisition of a new Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft. Responding to questions about the status of his previous jet in a video shared on social media, he stated that the aircraft had been repurposed to serve the public.
“My old plane is an air ambulance now, an emergency air ambulance for every Ghanaian, not for me alone, but everyone, he stated.
The aircraft being converted is a Bombardier Challenger 604, previously named “Dzata,” which had been part of Mr Mahama’s private aviation fleet for several years. With the ongoing conversion, the jet will be equipped to transport critically ill or injured patients requiring urgent medical care.
Air ambulance services play a vital role in emergency healthcare, particularly in situations where rapid medical evacuation is necessary or when patients require specialised care that cannot be provided through ground transportation.
Such services are often used in severe trauma cases, medical emergencies, and inter-city or international patient transfers.
The initiative is expected to strengthen emergency medical response capabilities, particularly in situations requiring swift movement of patients to advanced healthcare facilities.
