The Premiership champions put their three previous defeats in continental semi-finals behind them to record a 24-17 triumph, booking their place in next month's final in Lyon.

Having held an 8-7 lead at the break, Saracens quickly extended their advantage thanks to the boot of Owen Farrell and a penalty try.

Wasps' attempts to mount a comeback saw a converted Ashley Johnson try get them within seven points, but Saracens remained solid in defence to seal their final berth.

"The whole game showed the resilience of our team," said Itoje.

"We were up against it from the first 30 seconds and we showed the character this team has coming back from that early pitfall.

"It's about the quality of person and the resilience of this team. A combination of those things makes us very positive when we go behind."

Saracens will face Leicester Tigers or Racing 92 in the finalĀ and Itoje has no preference over who their next opponents will be.

He added: "We just want to go and win the final. That's our main objective. I don't think we mind too much who we play. We just want to give the best account of ourselves. "
