The 30-year-old back-rower admitted to assaulting a 21-year-old student in Bath in February and was subsequently suspended by the club.

Faosiliva was then handed a suspended prison sentence at the city's magistrates court last week.

A statement from the Premiership club said: "Bath Rugby can confirm that Alafoti Faosiliva has been released from his contract with Bath Rugby with immediate effect, following his recent guilty plea for assault and consequent suspended custodial sentence."

Faosiliva, who has won 15 caps for his country and played in the World Cup last year, joined Bath from Bristol three years ago and also spent a spell with Toulon.
