GHANASS to be closed down

 
 
Authorities have decided to close down school temporarily to enable them come out with a medium term measure to house the students affected by the fire which gutted the girls' dormitory on Thursday evening.

Parents have began withdrawing their wards from the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASS) after fire destroyed the girls dormitory on Thursday evening.

The situation has compelled authorities to close down the school temporarily to enable them come out with a medium term measure to house the students affected.

Fire gutted the Dormitory of the school in the Eastern regional capital of Koforidua amidst heavy downpour.

Some of the students had their properties, including school uniforms, exercise books, and other materials totally destroyed by the fire. No casualty was recorded.

MP for Juabeng North, Nana Adu Boahen who visited the school on Friday to assess the extent of damage has told Accra-based Joy FM that measures are being put in place to deal with the problem.

"We are looking at how we can resolve this problem immediately and then look at the medium to long term. Immediately, we have to find some arrangement to house the girls, about 200 of them who have been affected", the MP said after a meeting with authorities of the school

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Investigations have however commenced into the cause of the fire.
