New England Revolution sign Ghana midfielder

Ghana midfielder Gershon Koffie has joined New England Revolution from Vancouver Whitecaps.

24-year-old Koffie can fill the hole left by Jermaine Jones, whose contract expired at the end of last season and who remains at a standstill in talks over a new deal.

Vancouver will receive both general and targeted allocation money for Koffie, who had been with the club since they joined MLS in 2011.

He has scored nine goals with seven assists in 133 appearances for the Whitecaps.

“Gershon is a strong central midfield player who, at just 24, has proven success and experience in MLS,” said Revolution general manager Michael Burns.

“We’re pleased we were able to acquire him and we look forward to getting him into camp with the rest of our players and coaching staff as soon as possible.”
