GRA raises GHC4.3m in seven weeks

The Ghana Revenue Authority has therefore decided to continue the exercise, that was originally planned to last for seven weeks.

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has raised 4.3 million Ghana Cedis from its recent clamp-down on rent tax defaulters.

The Authority revealed this in an address to the press on Thursday, organized to announce the beginning of another exercise targeted at mobile phone operators.

Head of the GRA Special Tax Mobilization Force, Theophilus Gaskin expressed optimism that more revenue will be raised in the second half of the year.

The Commissioner-General of GRA, George Blankson, in his statement said the GRA’s attention has been drawn to Mobile phone operators because of the massive contravention of the VAT and income tax laws.

“The GRA has noted with concern that persons who deal in mobile phones and accessories have failed to charge VAT as required by law”.

The authority maintained that the Special Revenue Mobilization Task Force will embark on a nationwide exercise to compel all persons engaged in the business to pay the tax.
