Defensive end J.J. Watt will undergo surgery to address a groin injury after a 30-0 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round of the NFL play-offs on Saturday, a result which ended the Houston Texans' season.

Watt told reports he will have surgery on Tuesday to repair the problem, which has bothered him for "six or seven weeks now."

His breaking point came in the third quarter at NRG Stadium, when he slipped while trying to chase down Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. Watt went to ground, then had his head slammed to the turf by Chiefs tackle Eric Fisher for good measure.
Watt was slowed in December by a broken left hand suffered in practice, but he played through it and said that issue will not require an operation.
