Jim Furyk shoots 58 in final round at Travelers
Jim Furyk became the first golfer to shoot a 58 on the PGA Tour when he lit up TPC River Highlands at the Travelers Championship on Sunday.
The historic round featured an eight-under 27 on the front nine with six birdies and an eagle and Furyk then birdied four holes on the back nine, with no bogeys, to record only the seventh round under 60 in PGA Tour history.
There was a nervy moment for Furyk on the 17th tee when his ball flirted with the water, but his ball landed safely on the right edge of the fairway and he ultimately made par to maintain his blemish-free round.
Coincidentally, Furyk was the last player to break 60 on the PGA Tour when he shot a 12-under 59 at the BMW Championship in 2013. Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, David Duval, Paul Goydos and Stuart Appleby are the only other members of the 59 club.
Furyk, who was towards the bottom of the leaderboard entering the final day, was in fifth place at 11 under after his round, but he is set to drop down the standings as the leaders begin their last 18 holes.
Daniel Berger holds a three-shot lead, sitting at 15 under after the opening three rounds.
