Kane Williamson: New Zealand spinners worthy

Kane Williamson was delighted the decision to leave Trent Boult and Tim Southee out of New Zealand's World Twenty20 Super 10 opener against India paid dividends, with nine of the hosts' wickets falling to spin.

The Black Caps' premier pacemen were rested as spinners??Ish Sodhi, Nathan McCullum and Mitchell Santner were brought into the??bowling attack.

The decision worked wonders, with the trio combining for nine wickets at the cost of just 44 runs??as??India were dismissed for just??79 ??? their second lowest score in T20 cricket ??? in Nagpur, succumbing to a 47-run defeat.

Williamson was glad the line-up change had been vindicated and proved integral to the victory.

"It was tough to leave out Boult and Southee, but we have to adapt to the conditions. The spinners paid off today, which was very pleasing," said the New Zealand??captain.

"I'm obviously very pleased. It was a tough surface. Whatever score we got we knew it would be tough to chase, but we still would have liked a few more. The way we bowled was outstanding.

"We knew the best way to take wicket is to be patient and apply pressure and we did that well."

Adam Milne completed the victory with the scalp of Ashish Nehra??in the 19th over,??and he enjoyed seeing the success of his team-mates in getting the ball to turn.

"There was a lot of??spin out there and we thought maybe 120 was a bit below par but fair play to our spinners, they stuck at it and got us the win," said Milne.
