Parramatta Eels have confirmed Kieran Foran has been stood down as captain, but refused to comment on reports the half-back has been disciplined for missing rehabilitation sessions on his injured shoulder.

Foran was last month ruled out for the remainder of the 2016 season after damaging the bicep tendon in his left shoulder.

Reports on Tuesday suggested the Eels had punished the New Zealand international for neglecting club obligations with regards to his rehabilitation.

Yet a subsequent club statement only confirmed that Foran would not remain captain as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

It read: "The Parramatta Eels have relieved Kieran Foran of his captaincy duties for the remainder of the season so he can focus on his recovery from a shoulder injury.

"The club will not be making any comment regarding its in-house disciplinary systems."

Stand-off Foran, who turns 26 next month, was granted indefinite leave earlier this season in order to deal with personal problems and recently reassured Parramatta fans he was not planning to retire.
