Lightning extend series lead over Islanders

The Tampa Bay Lightning prevailed against the New York Islanders 2-1 in overtime in game four as they moved clear in their second-round NHL Stanley Cup play-off series.

The Islanders appeared to be heading for a win to tie the Eastern Conference series after Kyle Okposo gave them the lead early in the first period on Friday.

However, Nikita Kucherov scored in the third to send the game into overtime, before Jason Garrison netted the winner one minute, 34 seconds into OT as the Lighting took a 3-1 series lead.

The Islanders got off to the perfect start in front of their home crowd at the Barclays Center thanks to a well-taken goal from Okposo on the power play 4:20 into the opening period.

New York appeared in control of the game but failed to make it count, and the Lightning took advantage of their inaccuracy.

Kucherov did what he does best, scoring at the near post to put the Lightning right back into the game 7:49 into the final period.

Neither side could find a winner, meaning OT would settle the clash for the second straight game in the series.

And just like last time out, it was the Lightning who came away with the win, Garrison scoring early in overtime.

The Lightning have the chance to wrap up the best-of-seven series in game five on Sunday.
