Lizzie Armistead signs new Boels-Dolman deal

Lizzie Armitstead has put an end to speculation over her future by signing a new two-year contract with Boels-Dolmans.

In an exclusive interview with Omnisport last year, the world champion highlighted success in the Rio Olympics and Tour of Flanders as her two primary targets.

The latter goal was achieved when the Briton topped the podium in the one-day classic in Belgium last month, but Armitstead is clearly intent on continuing her career even if she also claims gold in Rio, having signed a new deal until 2018.

Armitstead, 27, said: "In recent years our development has brought us together at a very high level.

"As a team we are always looking to win and sometimes a look or gesture is enough to know what is going to happen. In this environment I achieved my main sporting successes and I am happy to continue my career.

"We have a solid and professional organisation behind us, so we are able to maintain our high level of performance."

Armitstead secured a silver medal on home soil at the London Olympics four years ago.
