Man to spend 10 years in jail for stealing 5-yr-old baby

An Oredo Magistrates' Court sitting in Benin, Edo State, has sentenced one Williams Obasuyi, to 10 years in prison with hard labour for allegedly stealing a five-year-old baby, reports PM News.

The sentence was handed down on the 42-year-old Obasuyi by the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. J.O. Ejale, after the prosecutor, Sergeant Thomas Ojo was able to convice the court that he was caught while stealing the baby on May 15, 2014, at Osaretin Street, Off Ehaekpen Road in the city.

Ojo said the offence is punishable Under Section 371 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable to Edo state.
