The Senior Developer at Ringier Ghana, Paul Gyamfi Fordjour speaking to the SHS students said the reasons why people opt to study Mathematics vary widely but include the desire to study something interesting, stimulating and challenging.

Speaking to students contesting this year's National Science and Maths Quiz at the University of Ghana Business School, he said studying Mathematic seriously will open many career doors for you after graduation.

According to him, someone may also want to develop problem solving and logical reasoning skills which can provide the opportunity to understand real world problems and help to make the world a better place through mathematical and statistical modelling and reasoning.

He said "Many of us don't really know we use maths in our everyday life.

"A viral video online talking about what we will be using 'Pi r squared and constant K' for   went viral but unlucky for the person in the video he was driving he never knew car tyres are made perfectly using 'Pi', to determine the amount of material needed to make a perfect shaped tyre, designers used 'Pi' to figure out the surface area of a sphere of the appropriate size."

The potential job prospects, he said, range from software development, meteorologist, pharmaceutical statistician, teacher to website reliability consultant.
