Mitchell Santner seeks New Zealand improvement at WT20

Mitchell Santner thinks there is still room for improvement for New Zealand, even though they??began their World Twenty20 Super 10 campaign with a stunning win over hosts India.

The Black Caps appeared to be in trouble when they posted 126-7 in Nagpur, but they removed India ??? the pre-tournament favourites ??? for just 79 to claim a 47-run victory.

Key to New Zealand's dominant performance were spinners Santner (4-11), Ish Sodhi (3-18) and Nathan McCullum (2-15) ??? Adam Milne (1-8)??collecting the only wicket to fall to pace.

Despite a phenomenal showing with the ball, Santner believes there are still plenty of things the Black Caps can work on.

"Every time you beat India at home it's a tough effort. We managed it today and it's going to be a confidence booster," he said.

"There's a lot of positives to take out of this game but there's also a couple to work on.

"We'll just take it game by game. We've got a tough pool and we're just trying to move on and focus on the next??game."

Santner felt that although the scorecard suggested a straightforward match, it was anything but.

"We knew it was going to be a hard-fought game. The score might show it wasn't quite like that, but it definitely was," he continued.

"We had to fight to get to 120, all their bowlers chipped in and bowled well at times and we thought that was maybe a bit below par.

"We came out and stuck to our plans really well and managed to keep getting wickets at crucial times, but it was harder than it looked."

Next up for New Zealand are??rivals Australia in Dharamsala on Friday, while India take on Pakistan in Kolkata on Saturday.
