MLB moves Puerto Rico series to Miami amid Zika fears

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins were supposed to play a two-game series in San Juan. That has now been moved to Miami amid Zika virus concerns.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins' two-game series in San Juan on May 30 and 31 has been moved to Miami due to concerns over the Zika virus.

MLB and the MLB Players Association agreed to move the games out of Puerto Rico after numerous players expressed concerns about contracting and potentially transmitting the Zika virus to their partners.

Instead of playing at San Juan's Hiram Bithorn Stadium, the Pirates and Marlins will now play at Miami's Marlins Park.

The MLBPA petitioned MLB commissioner Rob Manfred to move the games. MLB said in a statement that Manfred decided the players who objected to the trip because of their specific family situations should not be forced to travel to Puerto Rico.

Instead of the games, MLB will host several youth baseball and community events in Puerto Rico later in May. The league and Players Association will also donate funds to the Center for Disease Control Foundation to help rid Zika off the island.
