Morgan to leave Bristol to aid Wales career

Matthew Morgan hopes to boost his international hopes with Wales after announcing his intention to leave Championship leaders Bristol.

The 23-year-old impressed during the Rugby World Cup after making his Wales bow in August, and he hopes a switch away from Ashton Gate can cement a place in Warren Gatland's plans.

Morgan moved to Bristol last season and has scored 167 points for the club, however he was unable to guide them to promotion to the Premiership.

His announcement will be welcome news to Wales' Pro12 regions, who may look to snap up the fly-half for the 2016-17 campaign.

"We're disappointed to lose a player of Matthew's quality because we felt he was developing well at Bristol," director of rugby Andy Robinson told the club's official website.

"But we can't fault a young man in wanting to play international rugby. I just hope that those giving Matthew advice, stick to the promises that have been made to him. These are the main factors behind his decision to leave."

Meanwhile, Morgan thanked the club for their support and set his sights firmly on the Wales number 10 shirt.

Morgan added: "I'm desperate to represent my country and leaving Bristol is the best opportunity for me to achieve this goal.

"Until the end of the season, my focus is solely on helping Bristol be successful and ultimately win promotion to the top flight."
