World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn has had to face persistent questioning over the future of the tournament, with some speculating the event could one day move to China.
However, Hearn spoke ahead of the conclusion of this year's final between Mark Selby and Ding Junhui at the Crucible to confirm a new agreement had been struck.
"This is such good news for me, I won't have to answer this question all the time," he said.
"Sheffield is the home of snooker, the home of our blue riband event - the Super Bowl of our sport takes place here."
