It was the second 500-yard passing game for Brees, who became the first quarterback since former Giant Y.A. Tittle in 1962 to throw for more than 500 yards and seven touchdowns.

The 13 combined touchdown passes in a single game were the most in NFL history and the 101 combined points were the third-most in NFL history.

Despite that, it was a kicker who was decisive as Kai Forbath kicked a 50-yard field goal as time ran out to secure the win for the Saints.

Sunday was not a good day for NFL running backs, with the season quickly becoming more and more a battle of attrition.
