Canadiens lose first game, Stars stun Ducks

After nine successive wins to start the season, the Canadiens were looking to equal the NHL record of most wins in a row from the season start set by the 1993-94 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 2006-07 Buffalo Sabres.

The Canucks stormed out of the blocks as Jared McCann scored two and Luca Sbisa one by just 15:52 in the opening period.

Torrey Mitchell pulled a goal back for the Canadiens early in the third period but Radim Vrbata and Derek Dorsett added to the scoreline to seal victory of the Canucks.

The Dallas Stars made an incredible comeback, rallying from 3-0 down at the end of the first period to record a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Patrick Sharp started the fightback with a goal seven minutes into the second period, with Antoine Roussel scoring the winner for the Stars with just 88 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Columbus Blue Jackets won just their second game of the season via a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Another strong performance from the Los Angeles Kings saw them defeat the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 to extend their winning streak to six games.

In other results, Ron Hainsey helped lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Vincent Trocheck scored two of the Florida Panthers' three power-play goals and set up the other in a 4-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Boston Bruins picked up the equal biggest win of the NHL season so far, shutting out the Arizona Coyotes 6-0.

Zemgus Girgensons scored at 2:29 in overtime to secure a 4-3 win for the Buffalo Sabres over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Meanwhile, the St Louis Blues defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0, while the Minnesota Wild beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3.
