The Panthers have now scored 25 goals in their last five games, and they had three in the first 11 minutes of the game against the Red Wings, as Brandon Pirri, Aleksander Barkov and Vincent were on target early.

Two goals from Detroit's Dylan Larkin either side of the first intermission brought the score back to 3-2, but goals from Derek McKenzie, Jaromir Jagr and a second for Trocheck took the game away from the Red Wings.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Ottawa Senators conceded seven goals as they went down to the Edmonton Oilers 7-2.

The Senators have now conceded 16 goals in three-straight losses and their defence made for easy beating as the Oilers line of Connor McDavid (two assists), Jordan Eberle (two goals, two assists) and Benoit Pouliot (two assists) made light work of them.

The Philadelphia Flyers smashed six of their own past the Nashville Predators in a 6-3 triumph.

Wayne Simmonds and Claude Giroux scored two each for the Flyers as they extended their winning streak to three.

The Washington Capitals got a win after two-straight losses courtesy of a 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders, while the Boston Bruins needed a shoot-out to defeat the Buffalo Sabres in a 3-2 win of their own.

The New York Rangers were too good for the Minnesota Wild as they posted a 4-2 home win, the San Jose Sharks beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the New Jersey Devils 3-2 after a shootout.

Jonathan Toews scored his second goal of the game in overtime of the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 win over the Arizona Coyotes, after going 1-0 and then 3-2 down throughout the game, while the Dallas Stars also required overtime in their 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
