I was <a id="3e22a9ad-c9e6-43c9-a3b6-6b3f8142344c" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/hilarious-best-graduating-student-given-a-tuber-of-yam-and-chicken-as-prize/yp5zrg2">just as amazed as yourself when </a>I chanced upon this video. A video of people scooping vegetable oil from a choked algae infested sewage drain is sickening.

This incident ostensibly happened in Lagos where throngs of people rushed to scoop dirty vegetable oil for their homes. The video shows the gutter is choked and full of sewage but that didn’t deter the people from filling their gallons, bowls and bottles with the vegetable oil.

Incidences such as this make me wonder where our health priorities are aligned. As I watched this video, I thought of the numerous health implications consuming the contaminated oil could cause.

Is this a case of poverty, greed or ignorance?
