No hangover for Yankees, Giants respond

There was no hangover for the New York Yankees after a late-night 'A-Rod extravaganza on Friday as they clashed with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Both Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge – who were making their MLB debuts – hit home runs in the second inning of Saturday's 8-4 win.

The San Francisco Giants bounced back from their series-opening loss to beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-2, but the Chicago Cubs suffered their first loss of the month, going down 8-4 to the St Louis Cardinals to end an 11-game winning streak.

The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 4-2, the Los Angeles Dodgers got the better of the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-4, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-3, and the Washington Nationals edged the Atlanta Braves 7-6.

Elsewhere, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-3, the Cleveland Indians beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-1, the Minnesota Twins got the better of the Kansas City Royals 5-3, and the Chicago White Sox edged the Miami Marlins 8-7.

An eight-run sixth inning saw the Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 11-5, the New York Mets edged the San Diego Padres 3-2, the Detroit Tigers shut out the Texas Rangers 2-0, the the Seattle Mariners were too good for the Oakland Athletics 4-3.

Aaron Sanchez did not get typical Toronto run support, but it was plenty as he went seven innings and allowed just two runs on five hits in a 4-2 Blue Jays triumph over the Houston Astros. The win boosted Sanchez's impressive 2016 record to 12-2 with a 2.84 ERA.

BIRTHDAY SLAM

After taking a 4-2 lead on the Cubs on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk, the Cardinals busted the game open when Randal Grichuk, who was celebrating his 25th birthday, hit this grand slam.

RAYS MEET YANKEES

The Yankees got a taste of what could be with their two newest call-ups on Saturday. Now eager for an encore, New York sends its top young arm to the mound in Luis Severino (1-4, 6.42 ERA). Though he has struggled this year on the big-league level, Severino's mowed down batters in Triple-A for a 7-1 record and 3.25 ERA.
