The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed accusations by
Mr. Yamoah Ponkoh who needed 46 votes to secure his endorsement, polled 38 out of a total of 68 valid votes cast.
He accused Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako of masterminding his rejection because the latter knows his ability to hurt the chances of the NPP in the 2016 elections.
“Wontimu has been going round bragging that he will make sure I’m eliminated from the system, he will get his people who form the majority at the Assembly to vote against me. The local government is politicised. Wontumi has been meeting the Assembly members to vote me out. By eliminating me from the Assembly does not mean you have succeeded in moving me out. I am planning to be part of the campaign team of my party,” he said on Joy News, Tuesday.
But the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Sam Pyne has dispelled the claims saying, protests by Assembly members and residents heralded the announcement of his nomination.
“This is a definition of a bad loser because he went for that contest earlier but lost. Now they changed twenty-one government appointees, they were sworn in today and he still lost. So even with this mathematics, would you say it was somebody’s influence that made you a loser,” he queried on the same platform.
Although the Assembly has 10 days to meet for the third time for one final round of voting to seal Yamoah Ponkoh’s fate, he has stated that he may not accept a third nomination because he believes there are other avenues within which he could serve the president effectively.
