The Canterbury Bulldogs strengthened their grip on an NRL Finals spot with a dogged 13-10 victory over St George Illawarra Dragons.

In a true game of two halves, the Bulldogs were 13-0 up at the interval, Josh Reynolds' drop goal in the final minute of the half proving crucial.

Reynolds had earlier opened the scoring with a 24th-minute try, after an attritional start to the contest, with Sam Kasiano also going over.

Moses Mbye converted both tries, which would also be pivotal as the Dragons roared back after the interval.

Kurt Mann and Euan Aitken scored tries, but Gareth Widdop could only convert the latter before the skipper was denied by a superb match-saving tackle by Will Hopoate in the closing stages, leaving the Dragons two points off the top eight with the majority of their rivals still to play this round.
