Cape FM a local radio station in Cape Coast is said to organise the street carnival during the annual festival. But the Traditional Council has asked them not to organise the event this year.

According to the Traditional Council, the media houses disrespected them forcing them to remove the carnival from the week-long celebration.

Chairman of the 2016 Oguaa Fetu Afahye planning committee Nana Kow Amoasi III  addressing the media said

Nana Kow Amoasi III said because of the actions of these media houses they have banned the two radio stations from organising any activity during the festival.

However, the Public Relations Officer of Cape FM, Paul Anyaba, said they will host the event as scheduled.

he emphasised.

He said they held a number of meetings with the chiefs on the event but all proved futile. “The management of Cape FM has met the OTC/Planning Committee for not less than 10 times this year. It is, therefore, a falsity for anybody to posit that we have never met the OTC/planning committee. We are therefore not surprised that they gave contrasting accounts on the same matter when asked about meeting Cape FM on the Orange Friday during their press conference.”

He added the station has secured a permit from the police to organise “Orange Friday” despite the opposition from the Traditional Council.

The 2016 Oguaa Fetu Afahye is expected to take place from 27th August to 4th September.
