Justin Rose encountered an unusual distraction during the final round of men's Olympic golf tournament in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

The Briton, playing in the final group alongside Australian Marcus Fraser and Open champion Henrik Stenson of Sweden, had to wait for the galleries either side of the second fairway to stop moving before teeing off.

The 36-year-old, leading by a stroke from Stenson at the start of the day, hit his shot into the crowd, where a spectator – clearly not familiar with the sport's etiquette – stopped and picked up the moving ball, before quickly being admonished by the fans around her.

Rose was permitted a free drop in the area where the interference took place and, commendably unperturbed, went on to par the hole.

Golf is back at the Olympics for the first time since 1904, but many of the sport's top players opted against competing in Brazil, with several citing concerns over the Zika virus.
