Howard is expected to decline his player option for next season and become a free agent at the end of 2015-16 campaign.

And former Magic big man O'Neil things a move back to Orlando would be good for everybody, especially for eight-time All-Star Howard, who played at Amway Center from 2004 until 2012 before he was dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I think that would be good for the city," O'Neal via ESPN on Monday.

"First of all, after the first time he left, letting a big young guy get away, it shouldn’t happen a second time. All the puzzle [pieces] have to fit.”

O'Neal was the first Orlando big man to make waves when he was drafted by the Magic in 1992.

He ultimately left for Hollywood in 1996, signing with the Lakers, where he won three NBA championships.
